The Challenge

For staffing firms managing hundreds of job listings, the standard search experience has become a measurable liability. Conventional keyword search, even enhanced with location filters and faceted navigation, requires candidates to know exactly what to search for and returns results that rarely match actual needs. The search experience, long treated as a commodity feature, had become a bottleneck in both candidate acquisition and placement quality.

The Solution

iS2 Digital designed an AI-powered job search assistant for North Peak Talent that replaces conventional keyword search with a conversational, natural language interface. The assistant engages candidates in a brief guided exchange, asking targeted questions to establish job type, location preference, and seniority level before surfacing links to a small set of highly relevant results.

The technical foundation is retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG. On a triggered basis, the application ingests a high volume of job listings and analyzes each to capture not just job title and required skills, but also corporate culture attributes, benefits details, and workplace characteristics. When a candidate interacts with the assistant, their conversation is analyzed the same way, and the listings closest in meaning are passed to the language model as context. This lets the assistant match on candidate priorities that go beyond compensation and title.

Building an effective natural language assistant required significant iteration. iS2 Digital refined the system's domain understanding, implemented guardrails to prevent the chatbot from offering career guidance outside its job-matching scope, and built in natural language tolerance for abbreviations, informal phrasing, and misspellings. The result consistently delivers three to five targeted results from a conversational exchange under a minute, compared to seventy-plus results a standard keyword search returns for an equivalent query.

North Peak is a fictional mid-size technology staffing firm created by iS2 Digital as the basis for this project. The company, all associated job listings, employer profiles, and content were generated for these purposes.

North Peak was modeled on the scale and operational characteristics of real technology staffing platforms, with a high-volume inventory of hundreds of active listings spanning technology disciplines, locations, and seniority levels. AI-powered conversational search delivers its most meaningful advantages in environments where listing volume is high, job types are varied, and candidates need help filtering to roles that actually fit. By grounding the proof of concept in a fictional firm built to reflect real operational conditions, iS2 Digital was able to design, test, and refine the assistant against the complexity staffing clients actually face.
