The Challenge
The City of Los Angeles needed a real-time, city-wide alert system to efficiently deliver critical notifications. In 2014, [iS2 Digital] partnered with the Fundamental Design Group to develop the initial solution using Drupal 7, providing seamless, real-time alerts for six years. In 2020, the team led a migration to Everbridge alongside upgrades to Drupal 8, 9, and 10, incorporating enhanced security, performance, and advanced custom alert functionality.
The Solution
[iS2 Digital] initially developed the city’s real-time alert system in Drupal 7 using PubSubHubbub and SuperFeedr to enable live notifications.
In 2020, as part of a major Drupal 8 upgrade, [iS2 Digital] led the migration to Everbridge, ensuring seamless content and user data transition. This new platform provided enhanced reliability, security, and scalability, keeping the system operational without disruption.
To further extend the alert system’s capabilities, [iS2 Digital] later upgraded the platform to Drupal 9 and then Drupal 10, integrating custom alerts tailored to specific business rules. These updates allowed for more targeted messaging, expanded automation, and improved system administration, ensuring that emergency notifications remained accurate and adaptable to changing requirements.
Since its launch, the system has continued to operate flawlessly, delivering uninterrupted, real-time notifications and reinforcing the city’s emergency response capabilities.
